Even with non optimal wheather biking along the lake is enjoyable. The more historic neighbourhoods house beautiful villas. There are a few cafes with terraces on the lake. Also a good area for walking and jogging.

I visited during December when there was a Christmas market next to the lake. There was lots of food & drink stalls with the stunning backdrop of the lake which had massive Christmas tree in the middle. Worth a visit

We took a two hour tour from a boat call alster schippern if you don't speak german don't go it's a waste of money !! They have you a little square similiar to a gps where you can select the language this has a headphone...More

A boat tour of the lakes and up the Alster river is a very interesting thing to do. Here you can see many of the very fine houses and gardens that line the river.
