A very interesting thing to see although it just consists some lifts, a lot stairs, and a fascinating rather narrow tunnel under the Elb. When you think about it, it was build for cars also (in 1907, I think). It is all free, so go and see it.

Cool that it is so well kept and taken care of. It is for free, and quite nice to walk through. Remember, there are a lot of people who would like to walk this tunnel and the air in the tunnel could be quite dusty and not so fresh. If you could, try walking a time when you think there... More

This is a really unique attraction. Over the years I took a lot of business partners from Asia to see and experience the Elbtunnel, they were all astonished. This time, though, I took my 7 year old grandson and he loved it, even wrote a school assignment about his experience afterwards! The tunnel was initially intended for shipyard and dock... More

Walk through the tunnel.....and then walk back again ! The tunnel is a must see and offers an interesting way to get across to the opposite side of the elbe. It is interesting seeing cars pass through, and observing the rules that cyclists must obey. When we reached the other side we realised that there wasnt much of interest to... More

Different and free! Take the stairs or the lift and walk under the Elbe for a great view of the waterfront. Of particular interest to engineers I guess but we enjoyed it. The occasional car has to take a lift as well.

Impressive piece of industrial heritage. Big elevators take you down to the tunnel level. Beautiful, old and worth a visit.

It takes around 10-15 minutes to walk through if you take your time. Not a huge amount to see on the other end but it is all about walking through the tunnel itself, we had never seen anything like it. Lifts or steps are available to get you underground that you may also share with cars and cycles. Restoration work... More

Unusual attraction but definitely worth a look, especially the beautiful tiles and the old photos showing the history of the tunnel. Would advise taking the stairs down but the lift back up!

Alter Elbtunnel - ride a glass elevator down and you can walk or ride a bike under the Elbe river. I thought it was worth the trip down, all tiles.
