Rostock has an amazing church, St Marien Church dating back to 1230 which houses an astronomical clock built in 1472. The clock and charts were mesmerizing, as was a replica boat hanging from the ceiling.

This is an interesting church to visit. Small donation on entry. Make sure you pick up the English information sheet and map. It will help you understand what you are looking at. Spend some time at the clock very fascinating. We were actually very lucky...More

In this Lutheran church the alter, pulpit and organ are all worthy of note, but it’s the Astronomical Clock (behind the high alter) that’s the gem. With a calendar valid up to 2017 this clock apparently also provides a bit of theatre with a procession...More

Although the visit is free, they leave a cashier asking for a donation of 2.50 euros to help in the maintenance of the church. It is interesting to visit.

The church is having old architecture design. The main attraction is the huge clock, it's worth watching. Never seen one like this before. Must see if you are in Rostock.

Despite ongoing renovation work, this is a fascinating church with many ancient treasures. The stained glass above the entrance (and elsewhere) is beautiful. The building itself, probably due to the renovations, feels a bit "maze-like", with a new surprise around each corner, an amazing astronomical...More

We went at 2 PM to see the characters moving around on the astronomical clock - but apparently it is not working properly now. It did chime, but no moving people. A woman from the church appeared about 5 min before the hour and explained...More
