Good Architecture

This is a brilliant place to pass away an hour if your are into church architecture. Be sure to read the information board outside with details of the lightening strike.

Unusual entrance from the Alter Markt square, not through the impressive door on the side. The church is sort of built into the town hall. Looks like a small white church, but you come into a musuem shop where you pay the entrance fee before entering the actual church. Pretty colors, but quite an average experience.

A visit to this historic church will, at least might,... enlighten and/or enrich any visitor's visual or mental impressions whether religiously inclined or not. There's a lot to see, a lot to learn about things we, generally, do not often think about. In any event, it was a memorable visit and rather delightful to spend the time in this church,... More

A very nice church with plenty of details to study. Enjoyed the Seven deadly sins on the top part of the wooden crenelation of the altar area. Not easy to spot and the postcard which shows the carvings are a collage of pictures. Look up when you are looking at the carving of the hunters from Novgorod. Also - don't... More

Quite amazing! This is the oldest church in Stralsund and was started in 1234! Having seen a few large churches on this trip, this one was a real surprise. It is in the middle of a restoration both inside and outside and the paintings and murals etc are being given a spruce up to return them to their original colours.... More

Nice but seen it all before. If you have not seen it before then enjoy because it is worth it as an example of Hansiatic architecture.

This is a large church / cathedral in the centre of Strasund, with an entry fee of 2 euros. Although impressive from the outside, the interior is very poor and extensively damaged. It is undergoing repairs and to be honest, the interior is more like a building site, but still worth a visit

Beautiful and one of the best examples of 'brick Gothic'. Good to see it after Wismar and Greifswald.

We never miss a good church and this is one you want to see for sure. The restoration is on going of course, but thankfully it continues. The using the original colors on the columns is stunning.

Old town Stralsung is defiantly worth the visit however this cathedral was by far the highlight. Sometimes I get a little taken back about paying to enter a church but this was the exception. If you travel Europe you cannot help but see many fine buildings. Many of the churches are so well do it almost makes you feel sad... More
