This giant Gothic cathedral, which until its completion in 1880 had been under construction for over 500 years, is perhaps Germany's most famous religious structure and includes two huge towers that serve as the defining symbol of Cologne's skyline.

You can try to imagine it with photos and descriptions, but live makes even more impression - not to describe!

Never seen so much glass in a cathedral. It's sheer size takes your breath away. We were on a river cruise and the view from the river is fantastic.

Walking into the Dom itself is impressive. Must see! Great Gothic example. How did they build it and why did it take 500 years? Or rather I can see why it took 500 years, but what tools and techniques did they use? Amazing.

This is a must-see while in Cologne. The sheer size of this makes it amazing, never mind the attention to detail in its exterior design and construction. The inside is also very beautiful.

Лично видел китайскую туристку, которая сначала была в соборе с чемоданом, а потом взабралась с ним на саму башню собора.

Yes there is a rail which goes to the TOP. you can pause and rest where you can witness a big bell and the view from the top. As some one mentioned it is a long slog but worth it All the best.
