This plain fountain occupies an out-of-the-way corner of a pedestrian (figuratively speaking) square. No water in January, so no spitting surprise = not of much interest.

Still nice to see even in the cold and wet. Always fun to see people surprised by the boys antics, especially on a windy day!!

this fountain of the spitting boy was unusual from most fountains we have seen. at certain intervals, the boy spits water, so beware. everyone got a good laugh when one person just wasn't paying attention.

The Schängelbrunnen fountain, a symbol of Koblenz, is found on Willi-Hörter-Platz in the courtyard of the Rathaus (town hall), between renaissance and baroque buildings. It was designed in 1940 by Carl Burger and is dedicated to the Koblenz-born poet, Josef Cornelius (1849-1943), who wrote the...More

Our tour guide led us to the spitting boy fountain. It's good for a laugh, even on a wet day. It's located near city hall.

Here is the stature of a little boy spitting streams of water at infrequent times and distances, good for a laugh when people do not realise it is about to happen. Schangel stands for laughter, quick wittedness and a rhenish lifestyle. It refers to children...More

In a quaint little courtyard was an interesting statue of a naughty boy spitting water. Don't know the historical significance.

The statue of a naughty boy who spits water every two minutes. The puddle two yards from the statue gives a good clue where not to stand if you want to avoid getting wet! It is good fun and interesting.

The Schangelbrunnen fountain features a little boy who periodically spits water a surprising distance to catch people unaware. The city of Koblenz has been claimed by both the French and German countries. When it was part of France the local people were required to use...More
