We enjoyed spending an afternoon walking through the market and window shopping. Lots of different types of stores. Great architecture!

While I am sure the Hauptmarkt is lovely any time of the year it really comes into its own when the Christmas Market is on. Trier was our first experience of a Christmas Market and really we were spoilt. By the town and its Market. For a relatively unknown and small town its Christmas Markets, while smaller, are exceptional. The... More

We travelled here on a very rainy day but this did not stop our enjoyment of this charming, medieval square. There is a very interesting Celtic cross sculpture in the centre of the square as well as a water fountain from the 16th century. There is a Church overlooking the square and lots of nice shops and cafes/ stalls. There... More

This plaza is a good place to shop, eat, meet, congregate, etc. The small fruit/flower stands give it a nice feel. Interesting architectural backdrop. I got a kick out of the open-air wine stands which serve glasses of wine....not sure if these would work in the U.S.....

One of the top four places to spend some time in Trier, with market obelisk, fountains, period architecture, great shops, nearby restaurants (reviewed separately), and opportunities to walk and lounge. Must-see in this town

From the 13th century colorful city hall over Germany's oldest farmacies from 1241 to the 20th century Jugendstil houses, one can find all styles within one hundred meters!

We visited quite a number of market squares throughout Germany. This one was certainly worth it. The buildings were beautiful. One of the businesses is the childhood home of Karl Marx.

When taking the day out on the pedway shopping, the day can't end without hitting the wine stand. Taste local wines that are surely top shelf. Very reasonable for a few tastes. Typically 2-3 euros a glass. How can you beat it. Find one you love and buy a bottle. Always look forward to hitting it when in Trier.
