Beautiful scenery, mixed with charming German towns such as Pirna, Stadt Whelen and Rathen make this,a great destination. We did it as a day trip via public transportation from Dresden. Well connected. Really enjoyed our lunch in Rathen after hiking around Bastei.

The sandstone formations are unique and create a landscape which you dont expect in Germany. therefore, it has attracted paiinters, especially from the Romantic period. There is a trail called Painters trail. If you are not an experienced hiker, I guarantee you will be swearing...More

We loved this park and the cool little hiking trail was mostly paved making it easier for our younger kids to negotiate. We've been back twice and we enjoy it every time.

You need a car to get here. We came with local friends. In the winter it is not crowded. Everything was open and accessible. The bastil built over 100years ago is a fun hike/walk on a well maintained trail with an interconnected section of bridges,...More

This is a great outdoor activity. There are several trails to hike. I recommend a walk to the bridge. Optionally you can follow the trail down to the river. The stairs and walkways are easy to walk on with railings.

The Park itself is free of charge. There is a view point with the best view on Bastei Bridge. If you wanna go there you have to pay 2 euro.

Hello, I am going to visit the Saxon Switzerland National Park on January 1st,2017. Has anyone been there in the winter? How cold does it get up there? I'm worried I will get cold even if im wearing my winter coat because we are going to spend the entire day outside. Kind regards, JM.

I was there in October this year and it was cold even then, because ur in the midst of trees, rocks and nature. I suggest you be prepared for the coldest you can - with winter hiking gear like down jackets, etc.
