Something every traveller who is interested in taking pictures should do, and it doesn 't require a special effort, just to cross the bridge. There is a nice beer garden on the other side of the bridge from where you can enjoy the view even longer.

Fantastic on a sunny day but most interesting in any weather - especially if you like Canaletto paintings.

August the Strong took one Italian painter and made him the court painter. When he painted the original panorama of Dresden, who would have thought that it will forever in the future have this view bear his name, the Canaletto View. In fact, he painted 14 of these masterpieces. To me, sunset was the perfect time to enjoy Canaletto’s inspiration.... More

I visited in the spring, which was, in my opinion, a perfect time of year. Halfway across the Augustus bridge over the Elba, I sat on the bench and took in the view. WWII wasn't kind to Dresden, but the view is back to its glory days. At least, what I imagine it was like. Very romantic if you happen... More

Sit on the meadow on the left bank of the Elbe (Dresden Neustadt) and take a picnic and plenty of photos during summer evenings.

Head for the Japanesisches Palast and then you look back at the view of the Altstadt. It is only a short walk but hold on to your hat walking over the bridge on a windy day.

If you have dark skin, don´t go there. Dresden is full of violent Neo Nazis and Pegida activists. A shame for Germany.

This is the best overview you can get of the many historical buildings along the river Elbe and it almost sets you back 150 or more years. Any time of the day is good and worth the little walk aross the bridge for this view.
