When you walk from the city centre towards the cathedral you generally end up inside the castle walls. We didn't go inside as it was shut due to winter but admired many lovely buildings and the views from the top, not to be missed.

We enjoyed climbing the stairs to reach the base of the castle. There's also an elevator available at street level. The view of Meissen was beautiful from the top. There was a €10 fee to visit the castle but well worth it.

This is a beautiful, enchanting, medieval castle with a great view overlooking the city! This castle isn't mentioned on any of the German castle tour forums but should be! In my opinion this is a secret treasure in Germany! Even the city of Meissen is beautiful to walk through with cute little shops and restaurants! They have audio guides in... More

We walked up top the castle during our short stay in Meissen, it offers amazing views and there is a lot of history to learn about.

You'll need at least two hours to do justice to this magnificent construction which also offers panoramic views of Meissen and surrounding areas on river Elbe

This is a beautiful mediaeval castle which is also unique in having been the place in which the formula for European hard stone porcelain was descovered. And yet, it is hard to see past the romanticised late 19th century renovations. Like their British Victorian counterparts, it seems that C19 Germans had a love for reinventing and romanticising the age of... More

It requires a bit of stairs up to the castle. But it worthy. We visited the castle with audio guide. Mainly talking about the history and building technique in 18 century, which was very informative. Lots to see inside. Afterwards you should go to the terrace next to the Dom for a grand view of the city and the Elbe.... More

This castle is worth a visit. Approach it from the park and the path on the hill side for great views. If you're lazy, there is an elevator from the parking on the Meisastraße. The castle stood empty between the move of the elector residence to Dresden and the use of the castle as the porcelain factory. The location was... More

This castle tour was fantastic, well thought out, displays were informative, the free audio guide really interesting, the experience of skating through the Great Hall in felt slippers a little unusual. Recommend this experience highly.

Amazing gothic palace with XVIII and XIX additions. The building contents some of the most beautiful and complex vaults of the late gothic. The exhibition is marvellously fixed: large explanations, well designed panels, interesting objects... One of the finest exhibitions I remember...
