Gothmund was a quaint little village, one piece of advice would be to plan and run around the village before the bus goes or spend a full hour walking the nature reserve. Bus is once an hour on Sundays and be warned there are no shops.

You cannot drive by these charming little thatched homes near the water, but have to park by the street just above the historic area. If you walk to the left to the dead end of the street, there's a signposted footpath and then another signpost pointing to the right a bit further along. You feel very close to these little... More

Gothmund near the city of Lübeck - Travemünde is a cosy little village full of souvenirs backed by the “good" old times of fishermen and whalers. Cosy little houses offer a charming view back into history. Gothmund is situated directly at the river Trave and is accessible by boat or car. It´s worth a walk and some sightseeing.

We have been to many such exotic villages the world over, closest resemblance was with Japanese gasso villages. All of them were UNESCO world heritage sites and rightly so. Gothmunder weg is equally exotic with exquisitely maintained houses, lawns, gardens, exteriors and lanes. But the problem is that it is not meant for tourists to flock around - no cafes,... More

Cheap public bus from Lubeck stops very close. The old fisherman's village has many thatched houses and the thatch (Phragmites) grows extensively here. Don't stop with the village but continue upstream on the good tow path and return via the goose path to circle the lagoons. Good birding here at all times of year.

Great spot for a peaceful walk to see the prettiest little houses. There's no restaurants or activities to do here (at least not that we saw), just a beautiful little village that seems untouched by time. Actually, it's probably a little too beautiful to have looked just like that in the 1800s? But never mind, we really enjoyed our walk... More

The little village Gothmund is definitely worth a stop or at least a drive by from ship, since it is still a quite authentic fisher's village. The houses are neither sold nor rented out to anybody, but local families, so it keeps it traditional appearance. When you stroll through it, you get a feeling of being in an open air... More

I mean, if you bike around the countryside, then by all means stop. If you have a car and can waste just a couple of minutes driving, do it. Also if you trek in the forest and happen on the village, it's OK. But I went on purpose and spent 5 € for a bus (both ways from the city... More

this little town is easily accessed by public bus. There are quite a few beautiful old houses with traditional thatched roofs. When we were there, one of the houses was having its thatched roof replaced so it was interesting to watch. I'm not sure I'd want to be one of the residents with people snooping about.
