This museum is all about the mining of the ore around the town and also about the British when they were here from the 1880's to the 1950's. The train trip is well worth it, 90 minutes. A new attraction since our last visit is one of the Managers houses. Very interesting and well worth the visit.

Lots of fun. Took the train ride and also the tour of Peña de Hierro. Very beautiful and unique area.

The tour includes a visit to the excellent museum, a ride on the old mineral railway in genuine 1919 carriages (steam only once a month; diesel otherwise) and a visit to an old iron mine - and is very good value for money. You travel between each section in your own vehicles, following a lead car. Don't expect beauty; the... More

An amazing museum spread over quite a wide area - you need to use your car to follow the museum bus to the tunnel and open cast, and the train ride station. The whole scheme is well thought out and really gives you a flavour of the areas history. It takes the whole day to visit everything so it's best... More

We went on an adult group but kids would just enjoy this trip so much . The colours were amazing along the way.Not much to do when you reach the destination and there would only be sandwiches and crisps at the wee station, so bring a picnic.

This was an interesting rail trip asking an hour and a half. The downside was the running commentary was all in Spanish. When I asked the guide if he would do a commentary in English on the return trip which was the same single track, his reply was that this was only done if there was a large group of... More

We had a brilliant day here. I highly recommend a visit to Rio Tinto. The landscape surrounding Rio Tinto is very dramatic. The geology, the archaeology and the history is fascinating. We started at the Museum when it opened at 10.30. It is very informative and interesting. We then joined the tour of the Mine at noon and went to... More

We were advised to stay the night, and we stayed 2 which was well worth it. We did all the official visits on the first day: Mining Museum at 10.30; Peña de Hierro Mine at 12.00; Mining Train at 13.30 until 15.00; House 21 after lunch at 17.00. It was an incredibly interesting and varied day among landscapes from another... More

Highly recommended. Check train schedule before you visit as sometimes there is only 1 train a day. Also, take your sits on the left side, better views.

I am only rating the museum because we did not take the train nor did we see the victorian house. But the museum is of interest, especially if you like geology, Roman history or socialogy. The reconstruction of the Roman mine is interesting BUT... you MUST give time for your eyes to adjust to the low light or you will... More
