A special place with so much history! We went off season so unfortunately couldn't visit the nearby replicas of Columbus's ships in port. Some EU money is going into this site so it should be very interesting when the work is completed. But the monastery itself is still worth the visit.

We visited this place during a trip to Huelva. The audio commentary was brilliant and gave lots of detail about its history as well as making it possible to imagine that you were trading in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus. Very well presented and worth the very reasonable 3 euros entrance fee. Closes promptly at 1.00pm so be sure to... More

If you are interested in Christopher Columbus this is one of 3 places to visit around Huelva . The other two being the nearby town palms de la frontera where Columbus found his crew and conveno de Santa Clara where Columbus frequently visited. There are a lot of interesting monuments clise by. This monestery stands out as it is the... More

Firstly, never go on a Monday. It is CLOSED. As we found out. Also the museum in Huelva is closed on a Monday. So I can't tell you what it was like inside. However, to get there we caught the bus from the main bus station. It was number 1403 using the Damas bus going to Palos. The cost was... More

Totally captivating and awe inspiring, this monastery is where Columbus concluded his financial negotiations and plans to sail to "the Indies" by a westerly route. The result, as they say, is history. Now maintained by five monks, La Rabida monastery is a must for history and art lovers alike and (despite the many visitors) is a serene and peaceful place... Very nice and interesting place to visit. Almost no people in september. Easy to park your car. Definitely recommend to see LaRabida as well as ships of Colombus.

As a family of 6 entrance was only €7 in total which was fantastic. The friary is a tranquil quiet place and English speaking telephone style handheld guides were included in the entrance. Learnt quite a lot about Christopher Columbus which we didn't know and it was a good place to explore. We were disappointed the boats shown alongside advertisements... More

The massive column outside the monastery was very interesting and had ornate carvings on it. AS we walked across from the parking lot the area was decorated with lots of flowers and palm trees. Good entry presentation to the monastery where Columbus spent some time before going to the Americas. All the information was in Spanish but it was nice... More

Don't expect modern devices and screens or cinematic presentations. Expect though the feeling of walking into history. For only € 3 you have access to a friary where Christopher Columbus spent some time before his journey to the Americas in 1492. The tour is self-guided but you can have free audio guide (main languages - just need one document). The... More

Beautiful interconnecting courtyards provide a peaceful backdrop to this museum about Columbus: the events leading up to his trip and the impact it made afterwards. Combined with a walk to see the shops and the botanical gardens, this makes for a great day out.
