This is a fine example of what the wealthy company's of the era build in memorial of themselves. It happens all over the planet and Sevilla is no exception. This is a beautiful building which now houses a section of the university and is well kept and maintained as a historic site.

The old Royal Tobacco factory building. Ow hosts the University of Seville and is worth a visit. You can get a free audio tour at the concierge!

The Real Fabrica de Tabacos is a stunning building and hard to believe it was once a huge tobacco factory. Built in the 18th century in Baroque style it is now part of the university. Curiously it is surrounded by a moat perhaps to prevent the hapless workers from running away.

Behind this very impressive facade is actually part of the University of Seville. When i was there no visits where available but I heard it's sometimes possible.

One of the few buildings that you actually get to see from the tour bus, this ex tobacco factory, now part of the University of Seville, is very impressive. I didn't know that a tour is availablebintil it was too late - would be well worth doing.

It is an old tobacco factory. We waited for 11 am free English guided tour. She is very knowledgeable and explained both in Spanish and English. The entire tour took slightly more than an hour. At the end of tour, she refused to accept the tips as she said she worked for the university. Very honest woman.

We saw this interesting building from the outside but did not try to visit it as we did not know that was a possibility. We would have tried had we known.

As a great fan of the opera Carmen it was great to visit the factory in which she worked. It is now part of the University of Seville so access is a little restricted. However the architecture is stunning considering it used to be a factory and it is well worth visiting.

The Royal Tobacco Factory, widely known from Bizet's Carmen, has been the main university building for as few decades now. Guided visits are free of charge, instructive and interesting.
