Closed shops

It was a total surprise for us that most of the Markets were closed. Other than that, we found many small shops and they sell fresh fruit and vegetables.

I've seen many fruit/meat markets in my time, but found this a little disappointing. On my initial visit there were several stalls that were closed up. I returned the following day, but a little later on, to find shops still closed up. There was certainly the usual meat, fish, fruit/veg, nuts on sale, but the displays and variety just wasn't... We've been in Mercados in many places throughout Europe. This just does not compare to to most of them. I realize that this is not a tourist attraction, but where the locals shop, however we were hoping for a much larger variety of fresh products. We found fresh seafood, chicken, sausage, and pork. There were stalls with fresh fruit and... More

This is a unique experience because is not a touristic attraction yet is worth to see, or may be shop, that is a market where locals buy their produce. The building itself is a modernist style with a nice facade and an iron frame .You can choose fro a variety of food stands, fish, meats , vegetables, cheeses, dried fruits... More

Not a tourist destination save that it serves as a living exhibition and true cross section of the local culture and society. I wish we had a market like this where I live; a true shopping centre where the locals buy their groceries, bread, cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables: not a tourist trap where fancy presentation and high prices... Immediately upon entering this market you will be impressed with the number of vendors. They display their product so beautifully. From fish, some of which you will not recognize, to beef to chicken, breads fruits and vegetables, nuts and raisins and some of the most amazing deli meats and cheeses. Iberian ham galore, from Serrano to jamon Iberico. And as... More

Visited this beautiful old market and bought some fruits and nuts there. This market still serve the locals and as tourist it gives us a look into what's available for the locals. Love the beautiful entrance into the market. Just outside the market is the Augustus Caesar Square.

For me, visiting fresh food markets is always a good indication how well the local population live in a given place, so I always make it a point to visit such markets. The market is housed in an old, beautiful building, which looks like a railway station. Spanish markets are a source of constant wonder to me, due to the... More

Nice place where having a walk and eat something fresh. I had the hotel nearby so it has been a nice spot to buy something for lunch time.

We were delighted to visit this market which dates back more than 100 years. The historic Mercado Central is frequented by locals and features meats, produce, fish, spices, etc. A trip to the Central Market is a memorable shopping experience.
