Casco Viejo is the oldest part of Bilbao. This place is historic and a visit to Casco Viejo is a must for any visitor. The place is full of bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and other stores. The best way to get there is to go by Metro and get out Casco Viejo. Take a walk. There are seven orginal streets... More

Old city, interesting to go our for a beer, eat pintxos or see some old and beautiful churches and the cathedral. All on foot, cars have no access so it's great to get lost and find some new cute bars! Must see: Santiago Cathedral, Plaza Nueva, Mercado de la Ribera.

Don't go with a plan, just get lost around the streets of old town. It's small so you will soon get back to a familiar spot. Plenty of good bars & cafes to stop for a drink. Try the Basque history museum for an insight into local history.

Start by crossing either the Puente del Ayuntamiento or the Puente del Arenal to get to the Casco Viejo. Here are two of my favourite walks: 1.Cross the Puente del Arenal and if with children stop at the playground for a quick break and depending on the season go the Churrería for churros in winter and in summer go the ice-cream... The Casio Viejo (old town) is situated on the waterside and includes the Ribera Market with its stalls and food stands and restaurants. The bars in the Casio Viejo are primarily dedicated to Athletic Bilbao but these peñas are easily identified with flags and walls covered in flags and photos etc, however don't be put off as the clientele are... Guggenheimer museum has to be visited and so has the old town. Here you find all kinds of bars, restaurants, shops, in a nice old, arcetectual surrounding. You can walk around, sit down on a street bar or on the plaza.

Great way to spend a few hours , strolling these narrow streets exploring each to see what hidden treasure can be revealed. Good shopping and a multitude of places to eat.

Take time to stroll round the charming old town Casco Viejo and keep your eyes open. The architecture is amazing, some of the houses are beautifully renovated and others are in "shabby chic" condition. The variety of colours, forms, balconies, windows, decorations and all small details just got to me and we're definetly coming back. it's worth an other longer... More

I visited on a Sunday morning, and stumbled upon the antique market at Plaza Nuevo while there. This part of Bilbao is the oldest. I believe construction of the cathedral there started in the 14th century. I stopped at one of the many bakeries and had coffee and pastry. Take your time and stroll the narrow streets. I can only... My favourite part of Bilbao. This old zone plays hosts to plazas, bars, shops and lots more. Just get lost in the maze of street and enjoy the sights.
