About
The San Francisco de Palma church is a good example of Gothic architecture. It was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and holds the tomb of Ramón Llull. On the other hand, the façade was rebuilt in Baroque style throughout the 17th century. The most important element is the Gothic cloister, which is unique in the Kingdom of Aragon.

Fascinating church. Especially the outside carvings and the gothic structure inside, also the stained glass vindows and courtyard of the monastery.

Superb Basilica in the old streets of Palma. Stunning interior with a superb sunny cloistered garden. Seats in the garden to rest or for quiet thoughts. There is a school attached so avoid school start or finish times as a lot of cars outside and general noise from students when arriving/ leaving.
For a quiet, contemplative visit this beats the huge busy main cathedral and the large tour groups & cruise ship groups.

We came upon this place in passing and decided to enter for a visit. It was well worth it with beautiful cloisters and an ornate chapel

A beautiful place which should be a haven of peace and tranquillity.
Unfortunately on the occasion of our visit, a week ago, a group of some 30/40 early teenage schoolchildren boys and girls,(wearing light blue tops grey trousers /tartan skirts) were running riot through the cloisters, disregarding the barriers and going into the upper levels to throw balls down, climbing over walls ,playing cards in the cloisters etc.
Ruined our visit and not a good advert for their school !Not a teacher to be seen!

I imagine there are lots of ancient churches scattered around the city and most visitors only see the cathedral. This place is situated a few streets behind the cathedral and when looking at it from the front, it has many of the same architectural features. It was closed so we couldn’t go inside. But I’m sure it’s a wonderful place to worship at.

The St. Francisco Basilica is located in a maze of narrow streets of old town Palma. It's in a residential area, away from main tourist spots. We were wandering the streets with almost no one around which gave a serene atmosphere when we came upon this beautiful Church.
The interiors are likewise impressive as the Palma Cathedral (smaller of course) and the cloister grounds beautiful.
The only reason I deduct one star are entry fees. It was 7 Euros if I remember correctly, and is such for every Church in old town which I don't find appropriate.

This is my second trip to Palma & not sure why I did not visit before....not sure why it is not promoted more. Beautiful baroque interior, and cloisters - very interesting information card given to us by the super helpful ticket seller. Well worth the modest entry fee. More impressed with this than the cathedral. So atmospheric, less tourists and very interesting history.

Such a beautiful space - both the cloisters and the main basilica. Raining when I visited so the cloisters were a welcome shelter. But also v peaceful. Left wondering how many prayers had been uttered walking the lap I did. Then the main church is amazing. There were only 3 others in the building when I was there so it was v peaceful. I was able to sing Amazing grace - amazing acoustics in there. Just lovely.
