A beautiful Cathedral in this wonderful Spanish city of Santander. Could not go inside as it was closed. However it is really impressive.

The visit to the cathedral left me feeling cold but I suppose that perfect for those who wish to worship without any distractions.
The cathedral is above the old church. I suggest going to both. Cuz I'm a sucker gor older, more rustic things I loved the old church more. It even smelled old. Very low, romanesque ceilings. But yes, the cathedral- they require a euro for entry....More
Apart from the paintings the best part is if you look up at the ceiling the woodwork is in the shape of an upturned boat which reflects the nature of Santander as a fishing port.
The parish church is underneath the actual cathedral and we almost made the mistake of missing the real cathedral. Well worth seeing. One of the points in Santander on the Pilgrims Way to Santiago de Compostela
Our visit last year didn't include the cathedral as it was closed. Not signage as such indicating an entrance but one found a very pleasant young man greeted us. Only €1 entrance. Information in Spanish but if you have an I phone with qr reader...More
Lovely old building but all of the history is in Spanish so bring your translator with you and check out the times for visiting as services/confessions are still offered.
Not your standard cathedral. Beautiful on the outside but don't expect that 'vastness' when you walk in. I think my kitchen is bigger lol Not something to interrupt your visit to see, although it was very peaceful and the singing was beautiful
Entering the Cathedral through its delightful cloisters one enters a building whose simplicity belies a considerable history as an abbey upgraded to Cathedral status recently. Well worth a visit.
