El greco

One only painting, but it's a masterpiece. El greco at his best. You need to take your time to explore the complexity of the painting, and to wait for the groups to leave the hall

Iglesia de Santo Tomé, a church in Toledo, is average. El Greco's "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" is a must see, so pay the entrance fee, step inside and have a long look at this remarkable painting

The presence of El Greco's "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz," considered one of his masterworks, is perhaps the only reason someone would pay to enter this church. The church otherwise is not without interest, but understand what you're paying for. You will find many more El Greco masterworks in the Prado Museum in Madrid.

There are many churches to visit in Spain, but this one has one of El Greco's masterpieces--The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. This piece has never been moved from where it was painted and it is a wonderful piece of art. Make sure to read about the piece and all the symbolism to appreciate this painter and his work.

We came to Toledo on a full day tour from Madrid knowing the city, a virtual "open air" museum, was UNESCO World Heritage treasure, and the El Greco masterpiece found here alone justifies the trip.

In 1323 Count Don Gonzalo Ruiz died. More than 250 years later in 1586 El Greco was hired to paint a tribute to be hung over the Count's tomb. The painting called "The burial of the Count of Orgaz" is one of the most beloved El Greco paintings anywhere. Spot El Greco and his son in the painting. The painting... More

The main reason to visit this church is to stand in awe in front of El Greco's masterpiece, The Burial Of The Count Of Oraaz. This wonderful piece of art was commisioned for this church and has never been moved from the setting for which it was painted. When you stand in front of it you are part of its... More

The main attraction for me was the El Greco. The story of El Greco and the interpretation of the painting greatly enhance viewing it and give the viewer a much greater appreciation of El Greco and his talent as a painter.

Here is the church where you can see the fantastic El Greco painting in an alcove. You enter through a modern glass doorway, pay your fee and then see the tomb and corresponding artwork. The remainder of the church is fairly ornate, and does provide a place for quiet contemplation.

You can just stare at the painting and that would be enough. The story behind it makes it come alive and it is possibly the most beautiful painting I saw in Toledo
