The two devices which sole purpose was to pump the water from the river Tagus and carry them up to town provided the city with water in the 16th century. The devices, one disassembled ages ago and the other - in ruins, were considered a wonder 5 centuries ago and their exact principle is still unknown nowadays.

This tour bus stop is a prime opportunity to photograph Toledo as a part of Tagus landscape.. Reminiscent of El Greco. The artifice which directed water is ancient and no longer functional"

We went at 7:30am and there where so many birds flying about. The bridge is truly beautiful and the view of the city is amazing. Under the arches of the bridge we saw the bird nests. Very cool location.

I walked into Toledo and crossed the footbridge and was able to view all of the old workings down by the river Tagus. In fact, at the end of the day I took shelter in one of the old buildings built out over the water - never expected a thunderstorm to come through. The footbridge is impressive itself.

I headed off on my hop on hop off tour one very cold misty morning in Jan. There's no point in sitting down stairs. This was on part of the tour, it's awesome... The bus stops a few times to give you the opportunity to take photos. Look both sides.

We learnt a little about the Artificio de Juanelo while on our guided tour. The Artificio de Juanelo, were the two devices, which were originally designed to supply water for the city of Toledo from the Tagus River- similar to a water mill. Unfortunately, it is now in ruins and has long been abandoned. It continued to operate until around... More
