What's incredible as you circle the lovely central courtyard from one lecture hall to another is how little university classrooms have changed in 800 years -- rows of fixed seats facing a lectern. A highlight indeed is some of those seats of ancient carved wood....More

It is humbling to know that this university was founded in 1134 and is still going string today - more than 300 years before Oxford and Cambridge. The buildings are a visual delight to look at. The uni is surrounded with student accommodation and these...More

I visited the University of Salamanca with a tour guide who was very informative about previous alumni. However, her claim that it was older than Oxford University was incorrect. The outside of the building is really beautiful and just to stand and admire the building...More

A must to visit. There is a hidden Frog in the carvings which is hard to find but if you do it is supposed to bring you luck for a year and help you with exams beautiful place to visit.

Salamanca is compact and the older part of the city is largely built out of a lovely 'golden' sandstone which is very easy on the eye and the architectural features on this building are just lovely. Would love to go back and take more time...More

This is a classic stop with the walking tours. Find the frog, (HINT it is there on the head of a skull, but which one.) Stop by after at Valor chocolates.

Also very educational was the relative importance of subjects like Theology...More

There are several Faculties located in different historic building. Visitors can enter inner territory and see syllabus, see how genially incorporated modern facilities into Medieval buildings. That's really interesting!

Take a self guided tour of the “Old classrooms “. You may use the recorded tour or just walk and read on each room. Well documented in Spanish and English

We never did find the frog but the facade is certainly something you need to see. The courtyard is beautiful too. Don't miss the Cielo de Salamance, just through the alcove in the courtyard.
