The details and Masonry is so fine, it's difficult to believe. Something that is difficult to take in all at once but remains with you after you leave as you continue to ponder the scenery.

The buildings of the university are just breathtaking. The place is really good just to walk around , admire architecture and take pictures.

This is your chance to find the frog on the university facade. Try to read up on how to find it, otherwise ask someone if there is a crowd around. It is not that easy to spot. Otherwise the general buildings from the outside are great to look at.

Inside Guided tour only for seeing inside and in Spanish(45 min)....Founded in 1218 by King Alfonso IX, the University of Salamanca was Spain's first institution of higher learning. By 1254 it had received acknowledgment from Pope Alexander IV as being one of the four great world universities, along with the universities of Oxford, Paris and Bologna. Stunning auditorium , courtyard,... More

The old city of Salamanca is a very walkable city. It's easy to find your way around and is also within reasonable walking distance of the train station.

Being the oldest university in Spain, it deserves a visit. But I consider the entrance fee too outrageous, 12 euros including the audio guide. It is not like there is a lot to see, just a few rooms and a library and a chapel.

Gothic and plateresco, baroque and romanesque - all that can be seen in Salamanca easily especially if you encounter the old university blocks. Those who wish to deepen in the past - this could be your favourite place to dream

If you are near the new or old Cathedrals or near the Conch Shell House you will readily pass by the buildings of the University of Salamanca. I did not have time to go inside, but the outside of the buildings are tremendous to behold.

The University is I believe the third oldest in Europe behind Bologna and Oxford. The old library is an amazing site but one can only get inside to see it with special permission or as a visiting scholar. We were fortunate to see it because my husband gave a lecture in the Psychology Department and the library tour was our... More
