If it is a Gaudi building it has to be good and worth your time to see it. This one with its stone facade, bay windows and balconies that are a forerunner of the ones in Casa Batllo make it worth seeing.

We visited for a meal to celebrate my birthday, from the minute we entered to the minute we left we had the most wonderful experience. The Gaudi design was amazing and I couldn't help but look around me in admiration ... well that's until my food came! The staff were extremely pleasant and courteous and looked after us very well... Calvet is proof that Gaudi could play it straight if it needs be. Well almost. The carved facade and numerous balconies still make it special.

It's on the ground floor of one of Gaudi's more conventional buildings and it's a very smart place. The service is excellent, the food is good, but perhaps a bit pricy for the standard

Casa Calvet is not the most well known Gaudi-Building, and Casa Calvet is not the most spectacalar Gaudi-Building. But it is a beautiful building. Casa Calvet was built as a dwelling and offices for the textile manufacturer Pere Calvet. The facade have at lot og symbolic elements. You can not visit the Casa Calvet building, but you can go to... My adult son and I enjoyed a delicious late lunch in this beautifully decorated Gaudi building. We ate from the prix fix menu which offered several choices. They served a small sausage in two savory sauces, then wen ate the appetizer-tomato soup with prawn garnish for him and vegetables topped with broiler browned goat cheese for me. Next was our... Probably the most conventional of all Gaudi’s works, the house served as a commercial property and a residence for the rich textile manufacturer. Still, there are many details such as the curves, the top gables and facade ornaments that are typical for Catalan modernism.

Not as famous as his other buildings but I thought it was quite pretty. It has more restraint then his more dramatic buildings but despite the lack of flourish the stone carvings really bring life to this building

Walk by the building if you are near by. It's a more traditional Gaudi and if you are into Gaudi, it will be interesting. If you are not, stick to the more known buildings. The interior is very nice. If you can, have lunch at Casa Calvet. They offer a "Market Menu" for 34 EUROS. The meal was fine but... More

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
