About
The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica

Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

Nice cathedral but not worth visiting the inside
Oct 2021 • Couples
Its an interesting building and beautiful inside. Its full of towers, balconies and cellars/ crypts. Unfortunately you can't visit any of them.. for €26 you just get to walk around the main ground floor area which takes about 15 minutes if you are a slow walker.
Best viewed from the outside. I understand its a place of worship but if it wants to charge so much to enter they Should allow access to towers, crypts and balconies.

greatest Art masterpiece
Nov 2020
This church is the greatest masterpiece of the famous architect Gaudi. This church is very different from all the churches you have ever seen. While it is beautiful, it is very strange and different. One of the most important places in Barcelona when visiting is a must see here. It is better to get a ticket online beforehand as you may not be able to buy a ticket to visit the same day. Of course, there is a ticket office next to the entrance.

Not a regular basilica, more like an architectural phenomenon.

I can't wait to go back in 10 years, to see the finished work. The place is colorful and huge. No place other than Disney World could compare to its uniqueness. Worth every penny!

Mind boggling display of architectural genius. How one man could conceive of such a place is unbelievable.

Worth every penny. The most impressive sight of Barcelona. Try to go there during the day time to see the light playing the walls.

A cathedral with many unknown facts
Oct 2021
What a cathedral ! One can see why it hasn't been finished.
Religion mixed with nature ,old world and Cubist art. Truly fascinating. Do a private tour and skip the line. it is worth it.

If you see nothing else in Barcelona do see this
Oct 2021 • Couples
We got there early to find we had inadvertently booked the cathedral not the Sagrada Familia ( make sure you order the correct tickets).
We were able to quickly purchase the correct tickets across the road and went in at 11 am.
There was a lot of security to get in and you can download via QR code the audible tour which starts with a model of the building.
You are then taken around the front to admire all the features before entering the building and wow what an amazing inside- no matter what your religion this is just stunning and with its history its incredible.
Take your time taking everything in both from the structure , the stain glass windows and the other side outside , as well as the museum - worth visiting.
If you see nothing else see this

Not a religious experience for a religious place
Oct 2021
Incredibly beautiful and showcases both Guadi's use of light and the importance of faith to him but horribly touristy. No reverence for the fact that it is a place of prayer (like none. Have guards in the sanctuary to keep people out). Would love to have seen the Crypt, but understand that it is only open for worship and I can't blame them with the craziness that is in the main area. Would love to see it completed, but am unsure it will ever be able to be a reverent visit because the tone has definitely been set for a tourist attraction.
