About
The Fundació Joan Miró was created by Miró himself, at first principally with works from his own private collection, with a desire to set up an internationally recognised centre in Barcelona for Miró scholarship and contemporary art research, and to disseminate the collection. The Fundació opened to the public on 10 June 1975 and has since become a dynamic centre in which Joan Miró's work coexists with cutting-edge contemporary art. The Fundació is located in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, making it one of the few museums anywhere in the world in which the complicity between artist and architect underpins the dialogue between the works and the space that houses them. The Fundació offers an overview of the landscapes of Joan Miró's art and life, creating an enriching dialogue with other artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.

I found the museum to be quite interesting, with a large variety of works by Miro. However, the English guided tour was horrible. The guide walked us through each and every painting and sculpture in the museum, and provided us with endless information (sometimes contradicting what she said earlier). Also, her English was not fluent enough, so the 90-minute tour included a lot of pauses when she was looking for words. I expected to get some tools for understand Miro’s work, but instead - ended up understanding him less than when I entered the museum.

Great space and exhibitions, the amazing Miro paintings cannot really be appreciated until you see them full size. Great shop where you can purchase prints and books.

Having already seen some of his public sculptures, it was a culmination to spend a couple of hours here.
An exceptional body of his oeuvre is gathered, in fine galleries created by the artist himself.
He was deeply influenced by Romanesque art that was to be seen in the city when he was growing up and starting his life as an artist.
Many of the harsh images to be seen in this Medieval art is given an imaginative reflection in Miro’s works. A prime example is his piece titled The White Glove that resonates with frescoes from churches that are now housed in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.
His sculptures are marvellous to see. Solar Bird and other creations are imaginative and engaging.
Burst Canvas are another sequence of pieces. Showing canvases literally with missing segments, they symbolise life’s and art’s incompleteness.

Fabulous, partly as we are already Miro fans but the architecture, layout and sequence of the works was truly emotional and revealing, about his craft, logic etc.
Good mix of art but also scenery, some outdoor views too. Feel like they have a lot of beauty to work with and can mix it up even more, so will look forward to revisiting numerous times.
Easy to access - note you can get to it via Metro and its cable car, it doesnt need the Montjuic cable car ticket too.

A mixed review as one of us quite liked the art but neither of us really got it. Neither of us are arty people so the explanations of the art were a bit pretentious. Nice experience but really for the arty types.

We really enjoyed our visit at the Fundacio Miro. The museum was very visitor-friendly, very well laid out, with explanations in four languages and very easy to navigate. The building itself was at a great spot, quiet and with lovely views over the city. I felt that we kind of got away from hectic sight seeing and noise for a bit and just took in the art at a relaxed pace. Our teens loved it too. I think Miro's art may be more approachable for teens. Can easily be combined with MNAC if you have the time - we didn't unfortunately.

This was a very pleasing experience. Museum is excellently organized with a vast collection of Miro's artwork including styles and techniques not generally associated with Miro. Highly recommended!

The Miro exhibition is a must see. However we visit the foundation every time we come to Barcelona not just for the Miro, but they also have additional exhibitions that change every year, and the views from Montjuïc and worth the visit alone.

Jeg ønsker at vide, om der stadig er et "springvand" med Hg (kviksølv). Jeg har 2½ kg helt rent Hg, så hvis der mangler lidt, kan jeg donere!!!

Thank you very much for your offer! You never Know!
Yes, the Mercury Fountain by Alexander Calder is still in the Joan Miró Foundation.
It was a gift from Calder to the Foundation because of his friendship with Joan Miró.

(translated from English response).

Take the 55 bus from Placa de Catalunya and it will let you off in front of the Museum... and take the bus home from a few feet away. You can take the Metro, but you have a walk up a substantial 'hill' to get to the museum..
If you want to explore the Poble Sec neighborhood (and there are some really good eats there) take the bus to the Museum, then walk down through the park when you're finished and you're in the heart of the neighborhood. Then you can take the Metro home.
