The area

Neighbourhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

If you can, catch a concert
Oct 2021
Such a beautiful building, truly blending art and music. But the acoustics... SO AMAZING!! We were sitting in the upper level on a self-guided tour when someone decided to play Fugue in D. The sound was so incredible on the organ that we looked at the box office to see if there were any events while we were visiting. We went to a Beethoven focused piano concert that was truly breathtaking. The building alone is a masterpiece, but when combined with it's intended use, amazing!

Gorgeous building and worth the guided tour they offer. Even better, attend a concert. The fall tends to be the concert season, with events rare in the summer.

Amazing building - take in a performance.

So glad that our guide book suggested the best way to visit was to attend a concert. We were lucky to have a varied and memorable programme on the Saturday evening we visited. The vibrant music was as inspiring as the venue - and helped to bring the concert hall to life.

One of the most beautiful theaters in the world!

One of the most beautiful theaters in the world! The concert hall is built in the Catalan Art Nouveau style, and this is the only hall in Europe with natural light! But you can only get inside with a guided tour. The cost is 20 Euros.

Not a professional guard
Oct 2021 • Friends
My friend invited me and my boyfriend to a orchestra this evening. In the beginning of the second half of the orchestra my friend had to go to the bathroom. The rows behind us were empty and my friend left the hall peacefully without disturbing other guests views.
He asked a security guard if he would be able to come back if he would go to the bathroom. The guard said yes.
When he came back the guard was going to let him in but then another guard came. This other guard said it was forbidden to enter the hall when the orchestra was playing.
I saw my friend at the end of the orchestra and he told me he was making a formal complaint. We walked to the gourd that wouldn't let him in and asked for his name. He asked if we could take a picture of his nametag for the complaint. As soon as he said that the guard put his hand over the tag to hid it, took his radio and started talking angry. But he told before that his name was Oscar.
We started to walk away and my boyfriend called and told me there was a security guard running up because someone was taking pictures of the staff. This security guard approached us and was really nice. Then some other guy comes and tells us rudely to leave. He did it because this Oscar lied that my friend was taking pictures.
This really ruened our experience.

Great way to spend a couple hours!
The architecture and the stories behind it were interesting. The audio tour gave great detail without being boring. This was time well spent.

A wonderful Palace
Sep 2021
Be sure to visit! It is the symbol of Catalan modernist architecture. Ceramics, crystals, enamelled glass, mosaic columns that reconstruct the Catalan flora, the breathtaking skylight of the concert hall, etc. I hope I have given you curiosity. Too bad we could not hear a concert but it's another good reason to return to wonderful Barcelona.
