My son & I had a fabulous time exploring the site and taking photos. The views out over the city and the harbour are spectacular. As I was reading Carlos Ruiz Zafon's "The Prisoner of Heaven" during my trip, it made the visit all that more fascinating. We took the Montjuic cable car up from the subway, which made the... More

the castle is quite poorly entouraged, a lot of empty space, and some points the views are blocked. so don't expect a FULL view of the city. still nice to visit

After walking up the hill in Montjuic and getting some beautiful views of the city, you reach Montjuic Castle. (You can take the bus or cable car if you'd prefer not to walk). The castle entry is very reasonably priced, so for that reason alone it's not a bad idea to go in. There isn't a whole lot to the... More

The fortress/castle is well kept with magnificent views of Barcelona & the Mediterranean Sea. Definitely worth making the effort to go up to the fortress & have a look around. My wife & I spent Xmas day there for a picnic lunch, taking in the awesome views of Barcelona. Making your way up to the castle is an adventure on... More

Very well kept but if I'm honest there is nothing super special about the castle itself but the views of the city and the ocean bellow it are spectacular. If you are a photographer I would def say this is a must see.

Not worthy climbing all the way up there to see an empty castle. There is not even an information board about the history of castle or who built it, what purpose it is used for.

We made the walk up to Montjuic Castle (the Teleferic was not working!) and enjoyed walking around the castle and it's grounds. I would recommend checking whether the cable car is operational beforehand as it is a steep hill and would not be walkable for the elderly or anyone who doesn't like hills!! If you are walking, make sure you... More

What a great fortress! The view is breathtaking and the place has history on every corner. It's a bit hard to get there by foot, but you can find your way with the other means of transportation.

We fully enjoyed view of beautiful Mediterranean Sea as well as whole city of Barcelona, even though Teleferico (gondola) and Funicular (cable car) were out of service.

Entrance price is 5 Euros (for adults) to this well preserved castle overlooking Barcelona. We went on a stunningly sunny day and the views were just amazing over the city, the port area and even to the snow capped mountains beyond. There are plenty of excellent information boards explaining various aspects of the castle over it's long and sometimes dark... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
