Of all the artists and architects celebrated in Barcelona, Tapies is one of my favorites. I was so looking forward to seeing his work in person after admiring it in books for years. What a disappointment to be told there was no temporary exhibition on the lower floor, nor any sign of his personal collection of other famous artists' work... More

Antoni Tapies was a radical twentieth century artist. The lovely space is devoted to art and art education.

Imagine the Picasso or the Miro museums in Barcelona having exhibitions almost without works by the artist. But that was the case with works by AT at our visit (Oct 8). Such an exhibition policy is very hard to understand. Why not show at least 10 of ATs major works? The special exhibition (Harun Farocki) was interesting and has a... More

Having travelled to Barcelona specifically to visit this museum I was gutted to discover how little of Tapies' own work was on display. It was extremely upsetting in fact. I am not sure i will visit again in case it is still as upsetting.

Interesting to visit Antoni Tapies and see some of his art, although the collection was limited. It is very spacious, making it easy for disabled. Must bring your own wheelchair thought.

Being a major Tapies fan I was really looking forward to revisiting some of his works and showing my wife what he was about. Today we visited and there was a small collection of his work from when he was messing around trying to be political. The gallery of combinations was closed. The auditorium had a selection of small prints... More

This museum didn't offer us much in terms of interest. I wouldn't recommend unless you are familiar with the artist. Some of the exhibition sound didn't work and the works were a bit sparse. The exterior was interesting and right around the corner from Casa Batllo.

If you want to know what type of art was going on under the fascist Franco this is a good introduction. I'm glad I read about this museum in a travel book I purchased; I probably would have missed it. Antoni Tapies created a lot of his art while living under the thumb of Gen. Franco and I believe it... For someone like me and my wife, the museum itself wasn't nothing special. We couldn't appreciate the collection of this artist. I'd rather advice everyone to checkout the front outside layout of the museum which is rather great. As for entering, search firstly the artist's galleries.

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
