The main aim of the Museum is to preserve and reflect the history of the Jewish communities of Catalonia, which throughout the entire medieval period formed part of, and made a decisive contribution to, the history of the country and its cultural and scientific development. In most cases an attempt has been made to illustrate the explanations given during the visit to the Museum with examples of items originating from Girona's own Jewish history. These examples, which may be in documentary, archaeological or pictorial form, thus offer a general explanation of the pattern of Jewish life in medieval Catalonia.

This museum definitely is worth a visit if you're in Girona. It was the most interesting and informative museum of Jewish history that I've visited in Europe. In many places -- including Venice where our private tour guide told us that the Jews were locked inside the ghetto at night for their own protection -- this museum did not shy... More

Before we explored the winding streets of the Jewish Quarter in Girona, we stopped at this museum. What a fabulous introduction to the rich Jewish history of Girona. The museum is laid out nicely, taking you from the beginning of the Jewish community in Girona through the expulsion and forced conversion of the Jews from Spain. I would recommend the... More

A very intersting place to visit to see how the Jewish quarter evolved and declined. A bit intense on the details of the evolution of the language and where all the exiles came from and went to. More suited to those with a strong interest in Jewish history and funereal artifacts. The old womens bath was interesting, but some gaps... More

Jews were in Girona since at least the 9th century. They occupied The Call, many narrow streets in the oldest part of town, and were very much valued in the community at large. Unfortunately, The Call became a ghetto in 1391. The Museum, built where the synagogue once stood, is lovely and provides a very good idea of what The... More

We came to the museum to see the old mikvah and wanted to see some of the artifacts. There were some interesting items but most of the stuff was facsimiles of the originals and multimedia stuff on Judaism. The gardens are lovely.

Thank you for your comment. Our main goal is to tell the history of the Jewish community, despite not having many original artifacts in the city, that's true. The archives of Girona hold a rich collection of documents, so investigators can study them directly. Therefore we have facsimiles to show this heritage to everyone. More

I was excited to find out about the museum. We only had a few hours in Girona and decided to visit the museum. Entrance will only cost you 4 Euros which is very affordable. The museum isn't big so if you're short on time you can still enjoy the entire museum. Great place for history lovers!

The entrance to this little jewel of a museum can be easily missed; well laid out, comprehensive, microcosm of Jewish history not just in Girona but pre 1492 Spain. Highly recommended. Provides a compelling context to a more leisurely stroll through the surrounding Jewish quarters, in the shadow of the giant cathedral up the hill.

The museum is nicely put together and informative about Jewish life in Girona prior to the expulsion. There are a few artifacts and several stones with inscriptions from graves. You will find the remains of a mikva out in a courtyard. Near by there is a new Jewish Center which is run by Chabad. It is in a very cool... More
