About
The Maricel Museum exhibits a complete artistic route from the tenth century to realism and figuration during the first half of the twentieth century, passing through the art collections of Dr. Jesus Perez Rosales and the Collection of Sitges, with works of great quality. The museum exhibition integrates multiple languages, techniques and artistic media in order to achieve a maximum consistency in the chronological sequence of the development of the arts. The museum included works from the collection of Dr. Jesus Perez-Rosales that never had been exhibited in public, acquisitions by the Sitges Heritage Association since 2012 (Ramon Casas, Miquel Utrillo, Arcadi Mas i Fondevila, Artur Carbonell i Augusti Ferrer Pino) and donations from artist’s relatives (Pere Jou and Alfred Sisquella).

This is a wonderful museum with lots of fantastic art from Spanish artists and artefacts from different periods. The museum is a treasure trove of pieces all are beautifully presented. I loved the room looking into the sea with the marble statues. It is breathtaking and worth a visit for this alone. I also got in for free as museums are free the first Wednesday of the month. Well worth a visit for art lovers.

Earliest to be seen were from the XV century, including a striking Pieta in carved polychrome wood. A trio of figures in the same material shows a central male with head bowed sideways and a woman on either side.
A temporary exposition titled Catching the Light has exquisite pieces showing the best of Catalan glass creativity. Lara Fluxa's Fata Morgana is one such and delicately portrays water drops in motion.
An absorbing sequence of paintings highlight local artists from the past century or so. Lola Anglada i Sarriera’s Taking a Break from 1926 shows a reclining young woman resting in a field with a full basket of red and white grapes beside her.
Streetscapes, harvest and harbour scenes and still life works also beautifully feature.

This museum, which is actually 3 museums in 1 building is a hidden gem in Sitges! Having visited 2 museums in Barcelona we didn't expect it to he quite as good; it was! Spent a really enjoyable and informative 2 hours pottering around, looking at the fabulous art, sculpture, furniture in a really relaxed and wonderfully air conditioned environment! It was fabulous to see such well presented and interesting art from Catalonia and beyond! If you're in Sitges, like art and culture and want to escape from the heat then these museums are a must! Very good value - children under 13 are free - I would recommend to anyone who loves art, culture and beautiful presentation! Exquisite! So glad we took time out to visit ❤️

Start saying that the location is perfect, the story about the museum incredible and the collection eclectic as Sitges. You're not going to be in a huge Museum, just walk, relax and immerse a litle from Catalonian art, the art of people like you.

Very interesting museum. The house was full of delights! Porcelain to ironwork, all exquisite examples of Catalonian craft and art.

This museum gives you a fantastic flavour of historic Spain. There are fantastic bits and pieces, stunning scenery, and lots of local pottery.
I would also recommend that you check out their cultural offer - they do a number of cultural evenings that are between twelve and twenty euros. We have been to a couple of Opera ones. You get a glass of bubbly and the singers are fantastic. As an introduction to Opera/Jazz whatever, only having to stay an hour to an hour and a half and with a mixed programme - it is BRILLIANT!

You get one (quite pricey) ticket for Museu Maricel and Museu Cau Ferrat so they shouldn't really have separate entries. This refurbished museum is going for European museum of the year. I'm afraid it won't win - it's far short of the superb CosmoCaixa in Barcelona (a previous winner) at more than twice the price. The main problem for us with a young family is that there is no inter-activity at all. Some beautiful exhibits, but set out in a crowded way. We were the only ones in there and followed around by the many staff, which wasn't exactly relaxing. There are some nice pieces, but even without kids, this is only OK.

Knowing the beauty of Barcelona's hidden architecture, I remember the many unrenovated apartments in the city in the days before the euro. Stunning stairwells with detailed ironwork, brass and carved wood: the most incredible having been converted to boutique hotels. And surely many pieces mistaken for junk to be found in Els Encants. For both experts and the uninitiated the collection held in the Palace of Maricel is well worth the entry fee. The tour guide gave a remarkable account of the talented friendship circles of the time, the history and perseverance behind the conservation of the Col·lecció Santiago Rusiñol and the remarkable reproductions that have since been added. Free standing pieces of all shapes and sizes are embraced under the painted ornate ceilings and passages of the cool, thick-walled palace. The guide's account was so detailed and rather long that we would have benefitted from pre-prepared summaries or even a flip chart! There was so much, we spent a good fifteen minutes listening before climbing the first stairway. (Not the best experience in a party of twenty if you have very young children). Our roving eyes were met by sculpture, furniture, paintings and the intricacies of the architecture in stonework. Individually crafted, enameled azulejos covered the cool outdoor terraces affording us their views across the sparkling sea and heat beaten streets. Little quizzes helped us along where we had to make a connection or spot an artisits tell-tale style. It was a potted crash course in a slice of art history (if I could only remember half of it). A curiously perfect place to seek shade and view the rooftops below. I have since checked the website which reaffirms the denseness of the account we heard. Well done Maricel.

This deals with the artist Santiago Rusiñol and his friends and circle - there are even three images by the teenage Picasso who must have visited when he was at the art school in Barcelona. The completion of the museum has been delayed for several years by financial turmoil in Spain but now that it's complete, it's a model of how beautifully an art gallery and museum can be presented. Go on a sunny day because the sea glitters from some spectacular windows vertically above the rocks... it's arguably a bit over-staffed by Northern European standards but the over all design is matchless.

Great place to visit, I wish you provide commentary in English instead of Catalan. I love the views from the building.

Is the Museu Maricel part of the Palau Maricel & the Maricel Museum del Mar or are they separate?
I am most interested in seeing the paintings in the Museum.
