Good location

Good location just off Gran Via as a base to get to main sights in the city. Wide range of restaurants & the area is popular with tourists and families.

Was at Chueca District for San Anton Market, most of the shops were not opened yet when I was there in the morning.

This district is gay-integrated more than it is a gay ghetto - reflecting Spanish society. The district is full of shopping, bars, restaurants, ice cream bars... Enjoy the plaza around the Chueca metro station where all kinds of folk congregate to enjoy the sun, puppies, and each other. Treat yourself to an ice cream too.

I stayed at an AirBnB place and the street was easy to find and it was just off the main strip. There were tons of bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and theatres. On Sunday, part of the street was closed off and children played and people walked dogs. The Metro was easy to use to city center and back. I am... More

This area is more than a cliche than something else. Indeed you can find gay bars, restaurants and hotels, but most are filled with tourist. If you want to find the true local gay people, you need to go somewhere else.

Chueca has become the gay district of Madrid where many businesses are focussed on the gay customer. Indeed, this area has evolved to become a colourful neighbourhood where gay couples now live alongside an elderly population who have lived here all their lives. The area is diverse, tolerant and vibrant and certainly worth a visit. As the day progresses the... More

Chueca is mostly gay but in the positive way. So many bars, terraces and clubs. Nice feeling all the time, crazy sometimes.

Gay, straight..no matter. This is one of the most vibrant, fun, safe, relaxing delicious areas of Madrid. The restaurants, bars, cafes are extensive and you will be spoilt for choice. The atmosphere is wonderful and people very friendly. The shopping is outstandingly good so if your looking for a vibrant and fun place to be...this is it.

A friend and I recently stayed in an apartment in the malasana area of Madrid, just a few streets away from chueca. We spent the majority of our stay enjoying the wide variety of shops, restaurants and bars that these two areas offered. The mix of quirky alternative and high end shops makes this a wonderful place to stay. The... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
