This is the best tour we ever took. Enrique is a fun and knowledgeable guide. We were able to customize the tour and even during the tour Enrique was very flexible. He taught us about Madrid history and took us through 100 of years of it. He also showed us local spot where to eat and drink "cañas". This a... More

Enrique is a wonderful guide. He loves Madrid and the tour will orient you to the city. Enrique will energize you, which is a skill you will thank him for when you're walking a lot. We took the walking tour of Madrid, and loved learning history and culture. But apart from that you'll have a good time and we loved... More

Enrique is a wonderful guide- knowledgable, interesting and very entertaining. We loved his introduction to Madrid, as he gave us a fantastic overview of the city, and showed us both historical sights as well as modern hipster Madrid- loved the Ramones fan club, and the stories of taverns and the joys of vermouth. I would highly recommend this tour- its... More

Crazy name, wonderful people. We did a walking tour with Nacho (Ignacio) who, with excellent English, explained the who, what, where and when of what we were seeing. Having tried to see Madrid on our own on a prior day, we actual now understood what we were seeing, and then saw much more of the "non Touristic" side of the... More

MadSnails misfortune that Madrid's weather was not cooperating with us. A cold wet dreary day was not the best time to walk the streets of Madrid but we tried. Our guide was a trooper and did his best to have us see some sites and be able to survive the day. If we return to Madrid we would use MadSnail... More

Dear William: Thank you for your comment, we feel very sorry that your experience could not be rated excellent due to the weather that day in Madrid which as you said was cold and rainy! But we really hope to have you with us again sometime soon, so the experience can go from normal to excellent! We also thank you... More

I'm sure all of the guides are good but you will be lucky if you get Nacho! You really experience the life of a local and experience the hidden gems of Madrid. Nacho gave us so many tips that the rest of our stay felt truly authentic.

We had a wonderful walking tour experience with our guide Nacho. He was so friendly and had an in-depth knowledge of the city. The time went so fast he even extended our tour. We would have never found a lot of the city he showed us on our own. We learned so much about the city, history and food. This... More

Thank you for our tour! My husband and I are from Chicago and did the 4 hour walking tour with Ignacio. He was hands-down the best guide we've ever had. He made a large, busy city manageable. He showed us everything we wanted to see and far more that we didn't even think about. He recommended absolutely amazing restaurants. The... More

Our day in Madrid was amazing. My husband and I were met at our airport hotel, took the subway system and then spent the most wonderful 8 hours walking though the historical sites of the city learning and feeling . When we were a little tired or needed a break we would stop for a short time to sample some... More

Enrique met us at our hotel and took us on a three hour amazing tour of Madrid. Enrique is so enthusiastic! He loves the city and is so excited to share with visitors. We thought it was great that Enrique picks up on individual's interests and then directs portions of the tour to that. Enrique's recommendations for additional independent touring... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
