This public square dates back to the 19th century and is named after the referendum in 1863 which led to Naples joining Unified Italy. The semi-circular square is the site of one of four Royal Palaces in Naples and the San Francisco di Paola Church. In front of the church and in the square there are two large bronze statues... Piazza is crowded with tourists and kids ( and me ) taking selfies in front of the Basilica Reale Pontificia San Francesco da Paola ... Not much else happening - today anyway - in the Piazza - but you have to go there to visit the Basilica and surrounding sights ...

I expected there ti be more to see in this plaza, but it turned out to be a good place to sit on the steps and let my toddler run and chase birds. We then went and toured the palace across the way.

This piazza felt a bit like an oasis to us. It was wide open, bright, and clean; all in contrast to the general shabbiness we observed while strolling the streets of Naples. As a bonus, the morning sun lit up the Basilica Reale Pontificia San Francesco da Paola and the afternoon sun lit up the Palazzo Reale di Napoli.

Napoli is one of the most charming cities of Italy mainly because of sea and people who live here. Piazza del Plebiscito is very big, clean and nice square to feel the history and ambiance of this city.

The square is in a sort of oval shape which makes it interesting for taking some good pictures. It is clean, spacious and basically just a normal square, which you visit anyway during your tourist sightseeing. Nothing more and nothing less
