That's for sure one of the most interesting squares in the city of Naples. The Piazza San Domenico Maggiore is located on so called "Spaccanapoli" or Via Benedetto Croce. The piazza is rather of the middle size and tucked amidst the massive and large buildings, among others, here is also the Church of San Domenico Maggiore. So the place is... More

Very near to where we are staying, this old square continues as a lively urban one today. It's a good size, hemmed in by graffiti and recycling bins but there is also space to sit, or eat and drink, or just hang out.

One of the larger piazzas in the Centro Storico, there are several cafes/restaurants and the streets around the piazza are lined with touristy shops. Be careful: you are allowed to sit on the planters and eat street food you have brought, but the cafe owners nearby will give you the stink-eye and one will try to chase you out. Stand... More

While walking through old town Naples you'll come across the Piazza San Domenico Maggiore and will immediately admire the huge decorated central obelisk, in the center of the roughly triangular area. Intimate are w adjacent buildings and cafes and church. Looks similar to the nearby Piazza Gesu Nuovo, but still very different. ...

do you want to know how neapolitans spend their spare time? go to the very heart of the City and enjoy the coffee bars, musical bands in the street, pizzerie, bars, original and vintage shops, ateliers etc etc, people are there, they relax and enjoy life with each other. When I go to Naples I always go there.

If you are walking through the Spaccanapoli, the main artery of the old town (now pedestrianized) you will find a triangular square, with a spire on the middle. The piazza S. Domenico is the best place to take coffee and sweets, specially at the famous "Scaturchio". At the square you can visit the homonym church which contains many works of... More
