Lovely church

Another lovely church in Italy is not really a surprise but this one has reference to a modern doctor who was canonized for his good works.

The exterior of the cathedral is fairly drab, uninspiring an dull. But step inside and it's a whole different world. The in-laid marble flooring, the marble columns, the gold statuary created an awe-inspiring experienced, enhanced by a mid-day mass that was packed with worshippers. A gorgeous cathedral.

You have to step beyond the bizarre façade and enter this huge jesuit church to really start appreciating how big it is. Maybe too big ! It is so massive and the ceilings are so high that it is sometimes difficult to fully distinguish the paintings and the ornaments.

I had somewhat reluctantly decided to see this church over the cathedral as it better fitted into our plan for the day but I was by no means disappointed. I have never seen a church so beautifully decorated everywhere, in seemingly every single place from ceiling to floor. They were very happy for photos to be taken (without a flash)... More

One of many impressive churches in Naples but I thought Gesu Nuovo exceeded them all. The details and architecture are overwhelming and each area that is viewed overwhelms the senses.

On entering this church you are totally surprised because of the difference to the very plain frontage. Once inside it shows how grand this City once was, because of its frescos and all round beauty and smaller chapels with historic relevance.

The richness and beauty of this church is incredible! It rivals so many others we have seen in Italy, and features some alcoves dedicated to church members, some of whom reside in coffins! This Chiesa will bring you to tears for the beauty and grace of God that it stands for! Everywhere you look, the gold and artwork and stonework... More

A glorious church full of Italian art. Well worth the visit and a lovely oasis in the middle of the city.
