Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. Context's Rome walking seminars are an alternative to typical guided tours. With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome.

We used Context for 4 different groups, Caravaggio, Bernini & Borromini, the Borghese Gallery, and the Vatican Tour...they were each wonderful and we learned so much in each one...I loved it that the groups were small, and we could ask questions, and truly delve into the history and artistic points about the paintings and churches which we visited. Rome is... More

Our docent, Paolo, was extremely knowledgeable and took us on a trip back in time to the Italian Renaissance. What a treat to glimpse into the past and really envision the great genius of Raphael and Michelangelo, not to mention the forethought and commitment to the arts by their patrons! It was mesmerizing and beautiful. An experience we will never... More

Incredible tour, guide was very knowledgeable and made it entertaining. She adapted well to the small group and made it fun for both the young teen and the retirees. We'd take another Context tour in a heartbeat!

The Good: Olivia, our tour guide, was amazing. We did a Vatican Museum tour and she was extremely knowledgable and great at bringing our group through history and explaining the 5W's. This tour was a great experience and I highly recommend it. I would do another tour with this company. The Bad: The original docent had an emergency was not... More

We did the Imperial Rome and Collosseum tour with Dimo, an archeologist. It was an amazing and insightful tour, learning about the monuments and conceptualizing the development of Rome in history and the original place and appearance of the monuments

On a recent post cruise stay in Rome we used Context for small group tours of both the Vatican art and Ostia Antica. Could not be more delighted. Context offers highly skilled and knowledgeable academics as their guides. They refer to them as docents not guides with good reason. Their 6-8 person walking tours are designed for the visitor who... More

I was extremely disappointed with Context Travel. After reading good feedback in Frommers, I decided to splurge on a private tour for my family. The night before our tour I received a short email saying the tour was cancelled due to the medical problems of our guide. I could reschedule ...there was no other guide to replace our guide on... We are a family of 4 (2 daughters ages 16 and 13)...this tour was absolutely perfect...we were able to skip the line and tour the Vatican with an extremely knowledgeable tour guide who kept my daughters engaged and interested. Paola was an excellent guide.. this tour provided our family with positive memories of the experience...they want to go back for... More

My two kids and I went on a tour of the Capitoline Museum in Rome. We had high hopes for the Context tour, having read loads of reviews and articles about Context. The docent was absolutely lovely and friendly. Unfortunately - and I write this out of sorrow rather than anger - I feel that we did not get our... More

We were a study abroad group from America. I've been on many tours with students over the years, and this was the most engaging. The docents really knew their subject matter and took extra care to tailor the tour to our academic needs. I recommend for any traveler who wants a thoughtful and intellectual experience. I'm planning some personal travel... More
