The mosaics were breathtaking. Smaller church off a main street- well worth the visit if you want to see a medieval chapel and the glory of the mosaics. There is no charge to enter but a 2 euro charge to run the lights in the...More

We had to run in the rain to reach in time the church (closed 12-16). It is fantastic from inside but looks ordinary from outside. Medieval mosaics in very good state.

Tucked away just around the corner from the much larger Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, this unassuming church might not seem like much from the outside, but is beautiful in its own right, housing some gorgeous Byzantine mosaics. The church is a nice contrast to...More

A beautiful church, walking on holy grounds it felt like. Mosiac art, beautiful icons. Very much worth taking the time out of you itinerary.

These byzantine mosaics are probably overlooked and underrated, but they are really special. Our guide took us here and so glad she did.

I really pleasantly surprised by this little church. I visited this site while on my Pilgrim's tour and I really enjoyed the Byzantine Art that adorned the church, especially all the glittering gold colors. The church was also very cool and a nice reprieve from...More

I popped in here for maybe half hour just before visiting santa maria maggiore, its just as impressive in its own way, much smaller of course but a nevertheless hugely impressive place to visit, as other reviewers mention the mosaics are remarkable, packed with interesting...More

Booked a jump the line tour, the only way to go. The lines of people were 3-4 kms long at 9am. But well worht while. The sun and heat can drive you away. Go early and make sure you get in.

It is difficult to describe how amazing the old mosaics are in this Basilica. We had a guided tour by Context travel and it was wonderful to learn about this Basilica. There was so much that we would have missed without the tour. Definitely, one...More

Monti is Rome’s rebel yell. This neighbourhood just
west of Termini train station mixes grit with fun as
it continues to fight for its reputation as a magnet
for the artsy, alternative, and hipster. Every season,
quirky boutiques and food spots sprout up on its
cobblestone streets. The neighbourhood supports unique
and homegrown businesses that cater to its longtime
residents as well as hipsters on the hunt. Hang out at

Just like the other responses here. As I recall it was 1 euro coin to light the mosaics and there was a donation box, but no fee to enter.

Yes it is fairly wheelchair friendly except the crypt which has stairs. The street level pavement near the entrance has a step, what I can't remember is if the gradient reduces to nil at street level. Also there is a small... More

Usually from 7 or 7.30am till noon, then 4 - 6. Avoid church service times (Sundays). Though you can enter and pretend to be part of the service - just don't act like a tourist!
