The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

Way too busy, unable to see properly because they crowded too many people inside. It really depends how much you want to go whether you would be happy with it

A long wait outside (not so bad if the weather is ok) and then security checks similar to an airport. Both the outside and inside of St Peters are incredible and this is a must for anyone visiting Rome.

Which is Over Generous! Being a Blue Badge Holder. Upon arriving at the dome entrance cashier, we started to get shouted at, before I even showed “Louis” (the cashier) my Blue Badge! Myself and sister were humiliated beyond belief. When paying the Dome cashier, (roughly 2pm) I was asked if I had a carer (as i hold a Blue Badge) I said yes, at this “Louis” the cashier told me to proceed through with her and her husband that had payed for his ticket. We were half way towards the Dome entrance when we were called back by another Security Guard who said it was the Ticket man called “Louis” discretion if Carer went in free. We were under the impression that this had all been sorted. Does paying at the entrance with a Disabled Badge depend on if the face fits or, what nationality you are? Seems odd to me that admission falls on the shoulders of Cashier “Louis”. Correct Policy and Procedures were not consistent throughout the Vatican, as at the other entrance to the Vatican, a Carer Automatically goes in with the Blue Badge holder, no questions asked.
He then proceeded to shout very very loud and be Extremely Rude in front of Everyone, I told him it wasn’t an issue, happy to pay, but no! he carried on and on with the shouting in Italian (could of been talking Chinese, as I didn’t understand a Word!) My sister then told him how rude he was being, and should not be talking to the public (or anyone for that matter) like that especially working for the Vatican, a place of Piece and Tolerance!
He needs Anger Management and lucky my husband wasn’t there, as “Louis” would been dealt with in a very different manner!!! Beware when buying tickets to the Dome people.
He needs to be Fired!! A Major Tourist Attraction should be aware of Protocols from other Countries (I’m sure I’m not the first British Blue Badge holder to have gone in)
Dome itself Amazing!

You can enter St.Peter's for Free, but you will spend a long time in a queue that can be avoided. If you book a tour then this will include a guide and the fast entry. We chose a tour that included the dome, cathedral and crypt. The Dome offers an astounding view of Rome. The first 200 steps are taken care of by an elevator, but the next few hundred you will have to climb yourself which is not easy. (Do not attempt this if you have health or mobility issues). If you just go to the first level you can still enjoy the view of the interior and the magnificent dome above - up close. The Guide was just excellent and pointed out the main monuments and points of interest and then lead us down to the crypt to see the tombs of the Popes. There is no photography here but everywhere else has no restrictions. It is of course very busy but the amazing size and beauty of the structure is awe inspiring and well worth you going for the up-grade.

Wow what a fantastic church, I have seen a few on my travels but this is the cream of crop, the queue was very long but moves quickly, we were there on a Wednesday morning and as luck would have it we saw the Pope and only 4 meters away, all In all a great day.

the beauty and magnitude of this Basilica is impressive, many details, art everywhere, a moving sight even for non-believers.

The most amazing building on Earth. At least as far as I know.
Rome is severely over-touristed. But surprisingly, it was not too crowded (I visited in February). And it's free. It's the best deal in town.
Make sure to go to the top (not free, but reasonable at $8).

Entrance to St Peter's Basilica is FREE, and if you go early in the morning then the line through security moves fairly quickly. Please remember that while it is also a historical location, and "tourist attraction", it is also a Holy place. To me personally it was not only beautiful but very moving.

We visited in October so the weather was pleasantly warm - ideal for sight seeing. A tour guide led us through the spectacular interior and findings

Hello!
After climbing the Dome, can you go straight into the Basilica? Or do you have to line up again?
Ie, where does the Dome climb exit lead to?
Thanks!

The entrance and exit of the dome are inside the basilica. No need to line up again.

Mi dispiace penso di si ma non ne sono sicura
Si ya tengo mi entrada para el Vaticano y Capilla Sixtina, puedo comprar ese día al interior solo audio guía?

Hi, so it appears others have this question. It used to be that a private tour in the Vatican museums /Sistine CHappel would also include a private entrance into St. Peters basilica where you did not have to wait in line to get in. Does anyone know if that is still the case where a private tour gets you in to the basicala without waiting in line or has that option stopped like I have read previously. Any help in this regard would be very helpful.

Look for Skip the Line Tours. We did not have to wait, but we did travel late February.
Salve vorrei sapere gentilmente se il 2 giugno il papa celebrerà la messa in piazza San Pietro, grazie
