The tower (Ghirladina) is very dear to me, and Piazza Grande is a nice place for a variety of things. Stop for a coffee (or a glass of wine) at one of the bars, sit on the steps of the Duomo and people watch, or attend one of the many activities hosted here on special occasions. The cobblestones, the views,... More

The square is located in the historic center of Modena and probably by bus from the station you get off here and the square will be your starting point to the various landmarks. Here are the cathedral Duomo di Modena ant the tower Ghirlandina. There are wonderful cafes - you can relax drinking a wonderful Italian coffee and enjoying the... More

Historical cathedral, Middle Age masterpiece of architect Lanfranco, Romanesque style. Also the square is wonderful, in particular the bar in the colonnade, Highly reccomended.

Worth a visit to soak in the atmosphere and see the cathedral and other buildings all around. Recommended for a few hours.

You will probably pass thru it several times as you walk around the old city, but as a destination, it is nothing special. It offers good views of the Duomo and other buildings.

When you visit this city, this is a place you have to go. It's a great area to see and I would say the "central hub" of the city. It was just enjoyable to sit and watch people and visit the local shops and sights. Take your time here to enjoy this area.

Modena to know: the best method is to visit it: in addition to the Cathedral you can admire the Palazzo Ducale, seat of the Military, the house of the Ducal Garden, the many churches and squares in the center, the Galleria Estense, the Estense Library (where you can admire the precious Bible of Borso d'Este), Christmas Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari,... The Piazza Grande went through a clean up and refurbishment, and it is now very pretty. We also found it to be rather quiet on a Thursday in August.
