Per a suggestion from a local, we took the ferry from Trieste to Grignano. It was a lovely trip, with a great view of the castle as you pass it on the way to Grignano. A short-ish walk up some stairs and through the castle...More

Most interesting historical connections, particularly with poor Maximilian (who became Emperor of Mexico) and built the Castello 160 years previously, to his exact specification. He was an avid collector and his varied interests are displayed around his home. Worth visiting.

Beautiful inside and it's bigger than it seams from the outside. Price for the ticket was ok and the whole experience last for around 2 hours. The lake is beautiful at sunset.

I didn't visit the castle itself but instead contented myself with a delightful wander through the beautiful park. There are some renovations going on, and some areas that definitely need it but nonetheless it was a lovely place to while away an hour or two....More

The home of Maximilian, the ill fated emperor of Mexico who travelled there to take up his role, only to be met by a firing squad. Lovely gardens and location overlooking the sea.

Miramare castle was built as a residence of Franz Joseph brother Maximilian. Beatific castle. Museum is very well organized and exhibition is telling a story of end of nineteen and beginning of twentieth century and Austro Hungarian empire at its end. Must see
