We found Santa Margherita to be a delight, and preferred it to Portofino. It is cheaper to stay and eat than Portofino, but no less beautiful. It is a picture perfect seaside town with charming historic buildings and piazzas. If you are a runner, there is a nice trail between Santa Margherita and Portofino

I really had a wonderful time staying in SML. People are friendly and they have got some really good bakeries. If you are planning to visit Portofino, I would recommend you to stay in SML rather then portofino. I just wish I can chill at this little town longer. Can't wait to visit this place again.

What a quaint little Town and worth staying as a base to go see all the other places! Tons of restaurants everything is close to the water and the people are all very friendly and each restaurant we visited had fresh food and great service.

We stayed in Santa Margherita Ligure to have access to Portofino, which we had heard so much about. Unexpectedly, we found SML a lovely town by the sea with wonderful shops, cafes, etc. that we liked better than its famous neighbor. We would definitely like to come back to this town and stay longer.

We were originally going to stay in Genoa and realised Portofino was a short distance away. We very quickly changed our plans and decided to stay in Santa Margherita Ligure instead. What a fantastic decision it was, such a lovely town with beautiful architecture, fantastic food and friendly people. Much nicer than staying in a large city such as Genoa,... More

We spent four nights in a wonderful apartment up in the hills overlooking town; we enjoyed the views without having to deal with the noise. On our ventures into the town center we were rewarded with nice strolls along the waterfront promenade; plenty of others were doing the same. One beautiful warm sunny day we walked along the waterfront sidewalk/path... More

A small and beautiful town at the water just next to Portofino. Intimate, cosy and elegant. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful town with great restaurants and beautiful ocean views. We arrived in the evening after spending a day in Milan (just over 2 hour trip) and had a very affordable 2 BR house (perfect for our family of 4) with a view on an affordable budget. You won't find that in Cinque Terra. The next day took the train to... More
