A lot of the guidebooks make out this is in Ventimiglia - it isn't it's almost in France! We gave up in the end but it's 5km out of town and not well signposted at all!

We visited this garden and the Val Rahmeh Botanical Garden in Menton. I'm afraid the Hanbury Garden came a poor second. The University of Genoa are clearly spending a considerable effort in recovering the gardens after a long period of neglect, but there remains much to do. Given the unique location of the Hanbury Gardens, it was disappointing that more... More

These gardens are absolutely amazing. I visited them near the end of October & although there wasn't a lot of flowers out it was still visually stunning. There's plenty of information boards throughout. There's a section of it specifically for the visually impaired & that is well worth a visit. The aroma along those paths was exquisite. It is suggest... More

If you have a car good luck with parking. Having been told by the tourist office in Menton you could not get there by bus we went to Ventimiglia by train and then local bus. Buy tickets in the small shop at the train station. However the timetable from mid Sept to mid June is a bit eccentric. If you... More

We visited the gardens on a very hot day in September (30C or so) and were very glad of its shady spots. This is a stunningly beautiful gardens even though it is probably not at its best a this time of year. But the passion flowers and the hibiscus were in blossom. The trees and cactuses are fascinating and the... More

Almost 18euros to visit this botanic garden. The place is nice, well maintained but we find it too much expensive for what it is. Only a small bar at the very bottom of the garden, no real explanation during the visit.

This was my second visit and I have to say that it was looking a little neglected this year. Still worth a visit as it's absolutely beautiful. I spotted my first wild tortoise, too!

On a very hot dsy in July with the crickets at full volume these gardens felt very exotic indeed. We hadnt intended to go as far as the sea but suddenly found ourselves there. These gardens must be stunning in the springtime and the long walk back up the steep slope less tiring. Well worth the effort. Be aware there... More

The Hanbury Botanic Gardens is approached on the SS1 road out of Ventimiglia going towards the French border. The first problem you face is parking because there isn't much apart from some spaces just outside the entrance. Apart from that, you'll end up with the car perched half-way up on the pavement, hoping that some truck won't side-swipe you as... More
