Closed for renovations, we just walked around the gardens that were pleasant enough, including, bizarrely, a tank.

We were tipped off about the Rocca, as it didn't seem to feature on any of the 'must see' lists for Citta Alta. It appears to be an old fortress, perched on a higher bit of ground, about level with rooftops of surrounding buildings. Not sure if there is a museum inside (we couldn't get in that day) but a... Very beautiful walking upper city. Wonderful churches and other sites. The fortress and castle were nice but not as much to see as I would have wanted. The archaeological site seems to be permanently closed and can only be viewed through windows. Still a very nice visit.

In order to get to this place it is best advised that you take the cable train and the tickets for the cable train can be purchased from the small paper shop just next to the bus stop . We tried to buy the tickets at the train station however we failed and had to go back to paper shop... More

while the fortress itself is not of high interest, it is still worth to wander up here for the view on Bergamo Alto, the city's old upper part. you can walk around the fortress and at one point (when coming up just to your left) you have a nice view on all the towers and buildings.

If you were to do one thing in the area, make sure you walk up here to see the views. Walk all around the grounds and get panoramic views that are amazing.

The old fortress offers great views all over the area and is very beautiful. However, the museum itself is a bit of a disappointment, especially since there seemed to be no guidance available in any other language than Italian. If the weather is nice, you can spend a long time here just admiring the views. If it is warm, I... More

Not crowded, great views, classic fortress, nice atmosphere, near the historic old town square, and has a history museum that is very interesting and no one in it.

Wonderful views greet you upon entering the grounds. The museum is small but well laid out with exhibit descriptions in Italian only. Be sure to walk the perimeter of the walls; you won't be disappointed.

We went on a Monday so unfortunately I cannot comment on the museum as it was closed. But it was still worth the uphill walk to see the beautiful views and just sit and admire Bergamo....very relaxing and tranquil. Also a lovely park here, well worth taking a picnic.

Thank Karen W
