A must-see location and all, a great photo spot but riddled with beggars and often aggressive scammers. The square is filled with fearless pigeons who will sit on your shoulder and are good for a fun picture. Typically the scammer will place popcorn kernels in your hand to attract them and then demand money so be careful. Also the bracelet... More

Some of the most impressive stained glass in Europe. I love the bible stories brought to life in beautiful colors and fine details.

Piazza del Duomo beautiful square, always crowded. Beautiful architecture around and I wonder how this was designed such beautifully years ago. This is really amazing place to visit during day or night both have got their own look and feel. I recommend to visit day and night both if possible for you to experience and decide which you like the... More

Beautiful piazza with great photo opportunities. Try to visit it during day and night time. Make the effort to walk around the sides of the cathedral as well. Despite some construction (maintenance) activities, it still provides great sights.

Think Cologne, Paris and London. This place is crowded day and night, this is the nevralgic center of the city. Too bad the tourist office is not situated there, it would make everybody's life easier. Stay away from the cafés and restaurants bordering the Piazza, with the notable exception of the Cafeteria of the Palazzo Reale, which practices more decent... More

Each time I come to Milan I always seem to find myself wandering this magnificent square. The Cathedral is so beautiful and there's boards around the side telling you of it's history. Last summer I caught a great (free) art exhibition next door. In the daytime there's buskers playing great music, there's places to eat and loads of transport connections.... More

It's the most famous place in Milan, during the day is very crowded, at night you can enjoy it with all the street performers. I visited during Christmas and during the day we enjoyed the famous Christmas markets with lots of traditional products to choose from.

Many cities in the world are associated with a landmark. the Duomo is that for Milano. La Piaza del Duomo is the vast plaza in front of the Duomo. It is always packed and very easy access by subway or tram. Public transportation is excellent. You must be cautious with your belongings as in any crowded touristic place where pick... More

While people surely only stop by at the Piazza on their way to the Duomo or Vittorio Emanuele passage is it surely worth to stop and look around at this remarkable square. Here is where Milans hustle and bustle takes place and where the otherwise sleepy and elegant nothern Italian City shows its an actual metropole... Also a christmas market... More

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.
