Welcome to the Museum of the Cathedral, a symbol of Milan all over the world. The Museum's 26 exhibition rooms house the works of art originally from both the Duomo and from the historic storerooms of Veneranda Fabbrica, now organised chronologically to illustrate all the construction stages of the Cathedral, from its foundation in 1386 right through to the 20th century.

This was the first time I visited the Duomo Museum and I was very surprised about how much I learned and understood about the Duomo structured. I was with my daughter and we spent over 2 hours taking a close look to the statues, original stained glasses, columns that are exposed there. We loved this rich experience.

Magnificent Cathedral in the center of Milan. Visually stunning to look at and you don't need to be religious at all to appreciate the grandeur of the building.

I am not usually interested in church museums, but this one surprised me. It gives you the chance to take a close look to the statues that you see all over the Duomo's columns high above the ground. It also shoes original stained glass on hundreds years of age. I also loved the gargoyles which are also exposed for a... More

You must see the museum - it is very nice to see all these old and restored items, especially after you have seen The Duomo Cathedral.

Many of the sculptures of the Duomo are too high to see. At the museum, however, on can get close enough to view. Worth the walk 100 yards to the right of the cathedral and included in the price of your ticket.

Despite being an atheist, I enjoy visiting religious monuments of architectural grandeur and learning about their historical-political context. I tire very quickly of seeing artistic depictions of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and various stories from the New Testament. When I visit a landmark like the Duomo di Milano, I can appreciate it without having any emotional attachment to Jesus... More

Visited as part of my €2 ticket including entry to the cathedral so therefore it represents excellent value in an expensive city. The exhibits are great, lots of statues and models, some tapestry and most impressive is the large wooden model of the Duomo which I believe is held together with interlocking wood and no glue or nails. I preferred... More

We visited the Milan Duomo museum right after touring the Duomo itself. It proved greatly educational and enhanced our understanding of the history of the building and how it was constructed and designed. It has almost every imaginable detail about the carvings, the design, the concept and the treasures of the Duomo. We liked the layout as there is clear... More

If you are only in town for the day or two, skip this. It is a large collection of mostly statuary, models for those used on the Duomo. They are fabulous, if I may use the word. But you might think you have wasted precious time when there is so much of Milan to see.

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.
