Great place for hiking. We were in Val Grande for five days and didn't reach a half of the places we would like to see. It's very large area and you better plan your hike before. The park is nice but you do need to have good nerves to reach the top by car ;). There are some walking pad of you go up from the village, and some nice swimming spot when you go down the mountain halfway

We hiked from Cicogna to Alpe Pra, it was about one hour uphill (we are fairly used to hiking but not particularly fit now). Alpe Pra is a great refugio - run by volunteers. Val Grande is a large wilderness area in the Nothern Piedmont Alps, that turned into National Park in 1992. It's not for everyone. The trails are steep and sometimes not well marked, you need a map to hike around the park, and good mountain trekking skills. But the reward is great. No cars, no villages, few people met on the...
