The shrine is built on a hill from where you get great views over the lake. As a work of art, the chapels are worth to be seen but don’t wait nothing superb. Very interesting is to walk down the hill and to enter the...More

Sacro Monte di Orta is definately worth a visit, walking around the Unesco heritage sacred site and looking at the twenty chapels dedicated to episodes of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi is really something.

15 minute walk up steep hill from centre. Car park closer. The views of lake from up here is worth the trek. However it is the 20 chapels to Saint Francis each depicting a chapter of his life set in beautiful gardens that are truly...More

A Long drive up the hill, but worth every yard. Great cafe close by. Easy parking, and the church itself is a masterpiece.

Sacro Monte was well worth the visit. A fairly steep climb but well worth the view and to see all of the chapels dating back to as early as the 5th and 6th century but more recently the 15th and 16th century.

The Sacro Monte is in a park overlooking the lake and isola San Giulio. There are several chapels, some of which were in a poor state. The stroll in the park was very pleasant. A good place for a picnic in the shade. There is...More
