I found this place very interesting, if you are religious is the right place to come to pray. The little chapels are really beautiful full of art sculptures and paintings. At the end you just can rest with a beautiful view of St Giulio island, for me was breathtaking. Easy to access by car or the little tourist train. You... More

A Long drive up the hill, but worth every yard. Great cafe close by. Easy parking, and the church itself is a masterpiece.

Sacro Monte was well worth the visit. A fairly steep climb but well worth the view and to see all of the chapels dating back to as early as the 5th and 6th century but more recently the 15th and 16th century.

The Sacro Monte is in a park overlooking the lake and isola San Giulio. There are several chapels, some of which were in a poor state. The stroll in the park was very pleasant. A good place for a picnic in the shade. There is a small (but free) parking nearby. Well woth a stop for the view and the... More

After over passing Villa Crespi, you will turn left, up a hill and come across first a free public parking area for your car. There is also a paid and free parking before the hill (which you may also use to walk into the centre of Orta from the side of Villa Crespi). There are a series of old small... More

Having walked uphill through cobbled streets for 20 minutes you arrive to the Sacro Monte of Saint Francis of Assisi. This reserve is truly amazing, having over 20 chapels depicting the life of Saint Francis. It's manicured gardens in autumn colours can be seen as a place of spiritual reflection. The frescoes and wood carvings date back to the 15th... More

Short walk from the city of San Giulio uphill and you will find yourself in a complete different world. If you go in the morning, you might be the only visitor. Around 20 oratory's and a church are spread out in a nature reserve, most from 16 century and dedicated to the life of Franz from Assisi. Nice walk trough... More

A tour guide recommended the walk up to Sacro Monte di Orta. The site is reached up a steep cobblestone walkway past the Parrish Church. The top is a series of chapels with statues describing the life of St Francis and the founding of the Franciscan Order. I walked the circle of chapels and found them colorful. There is an... More

Sits on a hill above town. There is parking if you have a car or there is a path to walk from town if you like. There are 20 well preserved chapels that tell the story of St. Francis of Assisi. The life sized statues are very detailed amazing if you think about when they were made. Great view of... More
