There are may lakes around the Northern Italy, but this is truely a secret gem only known to Italians. Great restaurants, people and steeped in culture a must visit.

The lake is amazing whith the small Island which you can visit taking the boat. You also have a lot of walking trails in case you want to explore the lake in detail

The lake is more peaceful than it's larger siblings to the east. It has a very laid back feel and the town comes right down to edge of the lake.

A nice place for spending one day. Town village is small and relaxing. It has a really nice view over the lake and the small island. In a nice day is worth to explore all alleys and stop either for a lunch in one of the restaurants or just a breake with an Italian ice-cream or a capuccino in the... More

Orta is a hidden jewel. While everyone ooh and ahs over Lago Como - Orta has its own charm and its as good, or better. Fewer tourists, smaller community feel, and an ample supply of outdoor cafes. While you're there, take a 30 minute side trip to Santuario Madonna Della Sasso; you won't be disappointed

People say Orta is romantic, well I proposed after 11 years together so it must be. The scenery is stunning but I do not quite know what you would do if it rains

We enjoyed Lake Orta more than we imagined. It was so peaceful and every view was breathtaking. The town on the lake was easily accessible form our hotel, the Villa Crespi. We had a delightful lunch there near the boat launch.

We stopped here on the way from Lake Maggiore to the Ligurian coast. We took a water taxi to the Isola San Giulio and investigated the convent and took the path of silence. Interesting little island and it doesn't take very long to see it. We spent a few more hours in Orta San Giulio investigating the shops etc.

We visited Lago Orta just for a long afternoon. We will definitely go back and take the water taxi to the island. I would say come early if you want to tour the island and wander through the quaint streets on the mainland. It is peaceful and beautiful, but not as busy as Stresa. We actually got to see a...
