Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

We went on two Context tours when we were recently in Venice. One was of the Doge's Palace and the other was an architecture tour. Both were excellent. Guides were very knowledgeable.

Enjoyed this tour, which provided insights into the history and development of the city with a knowledgeable historian. As she also lives in the city, we got an overview of many of the current challenges facing Venetians. Guide: Monica

Context Tours are fairly specific and not for those wanting to do general "touristy things". Our group of 4 were delighted with the ecology tour of Venice led by Luca, a very personable and knowledgeable guy. This is a walking tour and we covered a...More

We did the Daily Life in Venice for Families tour with Matteo. Our group of five, including two young children, enjoyed the insights afforded by this tour. The Frari was a particular highlight for the adults, more museum than church. Our guide, Matteo, was simply...More
