Learn to row like a Venetian-standing, facing forward, just like the gondoliers-in a beautiful, traditional Venetian all-wood gondolina batella coda di gambero. See Venice from a unique, authentic perspective in this unique outing: you can't row Venice if you haven't rowed Venice.

Favorite experience in Venice, by far. First, they have a FANTASTIC website with all the information you could need in learning about them as an organization & people and about the tours/experiences they offer. They offer a couple different tours/experiences and our group of 4 (mid-20s friends from college on an Italian adventure) chose the Cichetto Row. It was about... More

What fun! My husband and I really enjoyed our experience with Row Venice. Our instructor (I am sorry I forgot to write down her name) was outstanding! She was a very patient and excellent teacher. Getting the chance to do a little rowing on quiet canals and to talk with our instructor about life in Venice was a memorable part... More

Dates: July 6, 2015 (delayed input) Just a wonderful, interesting walk up through Cannaregio away from Venice's big tourist areas on a hot July day, stopping at the many water fountains along the way to top off and cool down. Two grandparents, two grandchildren (boy 12, girl 10), decked out with gondolier hats and shirts! We fell in love with... More

We decided to book Row Venice rather than the traditional black gondolas seen everywhere around the Grand Canal as we wished to row ourselves as a traditional Venetian gondolier and we were so pleased we did. The lesson lasts an hour and half and at 80 Euros is a bargain compared to the time and cost of being rowed by... More

I'm a middle aged couch potato. I was concerned that this would be unpleasant at best but it was absolutely wonderful. I felt like a warrior when we were finished. An absolute highlight of the entire 3 week holiday in Italy. Don't hold back, book your adventure today.

Have the gondola ride if you wish, but invest in this unique adventure to understand and appreciate more of the skill of a gondola driver and life for a Venetian resident. Its not scary or strenuous, but you will appreciate the coordination, strength and training involved in driving the watercraft. Get a few tips from the locals to help shape... More

We are always looking for unique and off-the-beaten-path experiences and this one certainly fit the bill! Despite some rain and wind, we had an awesome experience learning how to row in the traditional Venetian style.

We had an amazing time with Ann on Saturday. Not discouraged by the rain, we enjoyed a very nice experience. Great teaching by Ann, just enough history or stories, great smile. I would greatly recommend this activity. We learnt a lot about Venice and tried this very calm and engrossing rowing technique.

This is one of the highlights of our Venice trip! Reasonably priced and a lot of fun. We had Valentina and Elena as our instructors, they are such wonderful and hospitable people, they showed us how to row, described notable landmarks to us as we row, gave us recommendations of places to eat and what the locals like to do... We really enjoyed learning how to row the Venetian way. Elena & Valentina inspired confidence in a couple of land lubbers with jelly for sea legs. They were also very informative on the history and inside info on Venice and it's islands. I would recommend this activity for anyone going to Venice as it costs around the same as getting... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
