Great place to visit if you have time in Venice and already visited San Marco and Doge's Palace and looking for something special. This old Monastery founded by Armenian monk and philosopher Mekhitar is situated on the island. And it has it's unforgettable atmosphere and artifacts. Monks or special guides provide a very interesting tour for you. Diving you into... More

Walk through the monastery and inner courtyard, historic paintings and Armenian texts show how monks survived on this island and tried to keep their culture & beliefs alive.

I arrived shorthly after 12 o'clock with another 2 tourists. Unfortunately, as soon as vaporetto has left, we discovered that we were "caught" ... The monastery was closed. The information stand near with it's entrance stated, that the only one tour would be performed at 15:25. Unfortunately this information is nowhere at the vaporetto station in Venice. And nowhere in... More

We went over to explore this little island at around 1pm, only to find the only tour was at 3.25pm. So we thought we would have a walk around, but it's all gated off and you can only walk around a tiny part. We then found that the next boat back was 1 hour and 20 mins time. So a... More

In order to reach this tiny island, you have to take the 3:10 pm vaporetto at San Zaccharia, right in front of the Londra Palace, a few steps away from the famous Danieli Hotel. For the return to Venice, the vaporetto picks up the visitors at 5:25, just after the guided visit has ended. After a small ride in the... More

You don't need to be Armenian ( like myself in this case) to visit this beautiful island which also covers great part of the Armenian history. Don't we learn about all other nations ? San Lazzaro deli Armeni just like most island in Venice is a beautiful island. I have visited 20 years ago and glad I returned this time... More

San Lazzaro is a beautiful little island inhabited by around 30 Armenians Catholic priests; nice afternoon trip away from the crowds of Venice and a chance to hear some history, see some priceless artwork up close, and enjoy the beautiful landscape. Only one tour a day at 3:30 so plan ahead

Not somewhere to go on your first visit to Venice unless you are Armenian. It is a few yards from the lido but access for a tour of the monastery is only by vaporetto number 20 from landing stage B at San Zaccaria at 15.10. Each tour is divided into different language groups and conducted by one of the monks.... More
